ONE DAY , THINGS TAKE TURN !
Living our lives encompasses various phases, and as we traverse through them, people and things come and go. It's a universal truth that our era recognizes the impermanence of everything. Yet, we have never truly learned how to navigate change—when it arrives or how it affects us. Our lives take countless turns, both small and momentous. Society has ingrained in us the ability to process breaking points, whether in a positive or toxic manner. We are familiar with tales of trauma, ranging from failure and betrayal to physical abuse and sudden loss. However, no one has ever provided us with guidance on how to handle life's unexpected twists and turns.
Now, here's the difference between breaking points and life turns:
Breaking points can be sudden and clear, providing us with a definitive place and path to move forward. They impact one aspect of our lives. On the other hand, life turns are gradual, bringing forth significant changes that affect multiple facets of our existence. Picture it as shattering a glass by abruptly striking it—sharp and swift. That's what breaking points resemble. Now, envision slowly shaping the glass, meticulously cutting it to fit a desired form. It's a slow and painful process, akin to the experience of a turning point. At that stage, acceptance becomes the only option left.
Have you ever encountered a period in life when comfort, peace, and happiness reigned supreme, only to witness everything slip away? It's an integral part of maturing and embracing adulthood, but it undoubtedly feels arduous. Yet, it is through these hardships that we become stronger and emotionally mature. Eventually, you learn how to navigate life's turning points. They will inevitably arrive, whether it's transitioning from school to college, competing with peers for employment opportunities, or assuming responsibilities as a married person, managing two families alongside your partner. After experiencing a series of turns, you'll find yourself letting go of many things that shaped your identity. Surprises and suppressed desires become commonplace, and personal time becomes scarce. These turning points, unlike breaking points, require us to adapt to our new lives, whether we desire them or not.
Consider a breakup, for instance. It fits into both breaking points and life turns. By breakup, I refer to the end of a significant relationship where you invested a substantial part of your life and effort. It's a sudden and heart-wrenching event, yet it presents you with a choice—to move on. However, moving on is seldom easy. You must navigate the changes that accompany your newfound solitude after having lived with a partner for an extended period. Alternatively, consider situations where you must accept someone with an entirely new personality, filled with numerous changes. It's a more agonizing experience, but accepting it is the only option available. Think of it as receiving a collage you never expected but still have to embrace, similar to a new job opportunity. (It's important to note that I'm referring to changes in our life experiences, comfort zones, and expectations, not specific circumstances.)
Turning points are an intrinsic part of life, and I'm not suggesting they are inherently negative. Rather, they signify change, which often comes with significant damage and sacrifices. Moving away from home to study or work serves as a prime example.
Allow me to share a personal experience. There was a time when my life was easy, comforting, and filled with happiness and enjoyment. I was in Delhi, preparing for the JEE, embarking on my first attempt. Time flowed seamlessly, surrounded by friends, a blissful relationship, and a vibrant life brimming with activities. Stress and practicality seemed foreign concepts. However, when the exams arrived, they proved disastrous, serving as a harsh wake-up call to the real
world. To compound matters, my relationship experienced a severe setback. Dealing with everything became a painful necessity, leaving me no choice but to accept the torrent of challenges. I subsequently moved to another place to prepare for the JEE once again, taking a gap year fraught with stress and a neutral existence.
So, how do we deal with turning points in life?
Now that you understand what I'm addressing, let's explore how to cope with these moments, specifically, how to adapt. Before delving further, if you find yourself overwhelmed by life's burdens, I suggest seeking professional help. It's one effective way of dealing with these challenges. Alternatively, practice patience and surrender to the flow of life. At times, resisting change and fighting against circumstances only bring more pain. Instead, allow yourself to follow the direction life takes you—it will be easier that way. You don't have to be certain about everything, for such certainty often leads to the loss of opportunities that were meant for you all along.
Gradually observe the world around you, discerning the crucial elements that demand your focus. Maintain your attention on the things that truly matter, as they will aid you in moving forward. The rest will pass with time, and you will adapt to the new version of yourself.
Embrace the discomfort that comes with turning points, for it is in those moments that growth and self-discovery occur. Understand that it's okay to mourn the loss of what once was, whether it's a relationship, a familiar environment, or a phase of life. Give yourself permission to grieve and process your emotions. It's a natural part of the journey.
As you navigate these turning points, remember to be kind to yourself. Practice self-care and self-compassion. Take time to rest, reflect, and recharge. Surround yourself with a support system of friends, family, or mentors who can provide guidance and lend a listening ear when needed. Remember, you don't have to face these challenges alone.
During this transformative phase, it's essential to cultivate a sense of resilience. Understand that setbacks and obstacles are part of life's . They do not define you but rather shape you into a stronger and wiser individual. Embrace the lessons learned from each turning point, and use them as stepping stones towards personal growth and fulfillment.
Embracing uncertainty is crucial when dealing with turning points. Life rarely follows a linear path, and unexpected twists and turns are inevitable. Instead of clinging to rigid plans and expectations, adopt a mindset of flexibility and adaptability. Be open to new opportunities and possibilities that may arise. Sometimes, the most beautiful chapters of our lives are written when we let go of control and allow life to unfold naturally.
Remember, the journey through turning points is unique to each individual. What works for someone else may not work for you, and that's okay. Trust your instincts and intuition. Listen to your inner voice and make choices that align with your values and aspirations.
Lastly, keep in mind that turning points are not finite. Life is a continuous series of changes, and as you navigate one turning point, another may appear on the horizon. Embrace the ebb and flow of life, knowing that you have the strength and resilience to face whatever comes your way.
